According to the SBA, a change was outlined by Congress in the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) eliminating the self-certify option for the Women-Owned Small Businesses (WOSBs) and Economically Disadvantaged WOSBs (EDWOSBs) contracting program. The SBA expects that the regulations enacting the statutory requirement will be effective around August 2020.
Once the changes go into effect:
- You will no longer be able to self-certify as a Women-Owned (WOSB) or economically disadvantaged Women-Owned (EDWOSB).
- You will have to either certify through an approved third-party entity or go through SBA’s FREE online certification at certify.sba.gov.
This is going to impact MANY women-owned companies who have only historically self-certified. Do not lose the opportunity to win small business set-asides by not gaining a formal certification.
